CREATING COMMUNITIES, BUILDING DREAMS.

Where ideas, innovation, and creativity come to life.

The Interdisciplinary Design Commons (IDC) is a 15,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art makerspace that is located in the rotunda of the Van Leer Building, at the heart of Georgia Tech’s campus. The IDC opened in September 2018 to provide the Georgia Tech community an accessible engineering space. Here, students can cultivate their making skills, create prototypes for their next big idea, and even build out their personal projects for fun!

The Hive is a community of student volunteers who dedicate their time to staff the IDC facility. They are responsible for upkeep of the building, machinery, training, safety, and the general well-being of their community. Peer Instructors (PIs), Master Peer Instructors (MPIs), and Executive Board members all work together to effectively manage the space and its resources. As undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students across all disciplines and majors, we are a diverse community devoted to sharing our passion for making.

All Georgia Tech students, regardless of year, major, or experience, are allowed to utilize the makerspace and all its resources, free of charge. Usage of the space also expands to all members of the Georgia Tech community, so come visit us!

Come visit us! We’re located beside Tech Green with one first floor entrance facing the CULC and another on the second floor of Van Leer.

If you have an idea, we’d love to help you out with making it a reality. If not, that’s fine too; our PIs would love to give you a tour or go into detail on using our equipment.
